Kanpur: Team finds tannery in Jajmau defying orders

Kanpur: On directives of the district administration, a joint inspection team on Wednesday inspected more than ten tanneries and found one of them defying orders of the regional pollution control board.

SB Franklin, regional pollution control board officer, said the teams are inspecting the tannery units almost daily and taking action against the erring ones.

The team, which had inspected around 15 tanneries on October 7 last, found two units functioning despite closure orders.

The state government ordered to close all units until further orders as the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is not operational because Jal Nigam could not provide adequate sewer water to add with the tannery waste, Franklin said.

On the orders of senior officers, the power connection of a tannery was disconnected as it was found operational.
