Karnataka: Lightning kills 79-year-old woman in Karinje
MANGALURU: A 79-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by lightning in Karinje , Moodbidri police station limits on Thursday.
Police, who visited the spot, said that incident took place around 4pm, when the victim Appi Shetty , 79, was at her house. While Appi succumbed to burns immediately, two others including her daughter Amba, were unhurt.
Moodbidri Tashildar and revenue officials visited the spot. A case has been registered.

The State Emergency Operation Center, Revenue Department (Disaster Management) had issued a three hour alert on Thursday evening that thunder storm would be accompanied with moderate to heavy spells of rain and strong winds speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph. The rainfall was heavy in interior taluks like Sullia and Bantwal. Meramajalu, Chennaithodi in Bantwal taluk, Kalanja of Belthangady taluk and Mulki and Mennabettu in Mangaluru taluk received good rainfall.
