Kerala: Six More Bodies Recovered, Malappuram Landslide Death Toll Reaches 46

The total death toll in the Kavalappara landslide tragedy in Kerala, which occurred on August 8, has risen to 46.

The joint rescue team, comprising military, NDRF, police and fire department personnel along with volunteers, managed to recover six more bodies from the landslide spot in Malappuram district on Sunday.

Authorities believe 13 more people remain missing under the debris.

Now, the government has sought the help of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad. The NGRI will be brought in to make use of GPR, a geophysical method used to detect subsurface objects using high-frequency radio waves.

Meanwhile, the authorities are also expected to continue using routine search methods in the days to come.

The landslide, which was triggered by heavy rain, caught the neighbourhood unaware, flattening around 40 houses.
