Kerala's Ernakulam reports 135 +ve cases, 128 via contact

KOCHI: Ernakulam reported the highest single-day spike on Tuesday with 135 Covid positive cases, including 128 contact ones.


The result of 69-year-old Gopi from Ernakulam who died on Sunday came out positive.

Of the contact cases, more than 30 people are from West Kochi area alone. Thrikkakara municipality reported 10 new cases.

With this, the active cases in the municipality rose to 60 on Tuesday. A 61-year-old Kadungalloor native, died of Covid, has also been included in the 128 contact cases.

Multiple cases were also reported from Angamaly, Kalady, Kadungalloor, Maradu, Edappally, Choornikkara, Eloor and Koothattukulam areas. Two Asha workers were also tested positive in Eloor.

As many as 11,253 people are under quarantine in houses, Covid care centres and paid quarantine facilities.

At the online meeting held with health minister K K Shailaja on Tuesday, district collector S Suhas has informed that 82 private hospitals would work with the government to fight Covid-19. As many as 81 Covid patients are undergoing treatment at various private hospitals in Ernakulam.

Meanwhile in Choornikkara, 119 residents have been asked to undergo quarantine as they met people, who were tested positive, at a swab collection camp held at ward number 13 on August 1.

Of the 128 people who had attended the camp, nine were tested positive.
