'Kidnapped' Satara man rescued near Thane

THANE: Two persons from Satara were arrested allegedly for 'kidnapping' a 40-year-old man who was rescued by the Thane police team early on Wednesday.


The police said the victim, Vishal Pilaware, a resident of Satara had borrowed some money from the accused a couple of months ago. "The accused were demanding to give him back the amount but the victim could not pay them.

Hence the accused on Tuesday told him to accompany the duo, who came to Thane and kept him 'confined' in the vicinity of Vitawa," said a police officer privy to the probe.

Back home in Satara, Pilaware's family got tensed after he went missing abruptly and in a while one of his family members received a call from the accused.

"The duo demanded Rs 2 lakh for his safe release and told to arrange for the same immediately so as to keep him safe. His family immediately approached the Shahupuri police station and registered a case of kidnapping as well as extortion," said a police officer.

During the technical analysis of the phone number from which the accused had called up the family members, they found the location in the vicinity of Vitawa in Kalwa area. Hence a police team from Zone-1 was dispatched following the assistance sought by supritendent of police of Satara from Thane police commissioner.

The team led by assistant inspector Ashok Bhandare started to map their location in and around the vicinity of the Vitawa and another team went to the spot and found trio loitering and even the victim was too tired and looked hapless. The police spread out around the vicinity and trapped the duo.

The police then contacted the Satara police who took the custody of the duo and went back for the further investigations.

Mugutlal Patil, in-charge of Shahupuri police station refused to divulge any details on the identity of the accused.

A case has been registered at Shahupuri police station under Section 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and Section 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) of Indian Penal code .
