Kishanganj (Bihar) Election 2019: JDU candidate Mahmood Ashraf faces Congress' Mohamed Javed for LS seat

Patna: The Kishanganj Lok Sabha constituency went to the polls in the second phase of the 2019 general elections on April 18. The seat saw stiff poll contest between Mahmood Ashraf of the Janata Dal-United (JDU) and Mohamed Javed of the Congress.
 
The Kishanganj Parliamentary seat

comprises six state Assembly segments namely Bahadurganj, Thakurganj, Kishanganj, Kochadhaman, Amour and Baisi.
 
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kishanganj recorded a voter turnout of 64.52 per cent. Of the total 10 candidates who contested in 2014 the top three candidates were Mohammad Asrarul Haque (Congress), Dilip Kumar Jaiswal (BJP) and Akhtraul Imam (JDU). The winning candidate Mohammad Asrarul Haque of the Congress secured 4,93,461 (53.15 per cent) votes. He won by a margin of 1,94,612 (21 per cent) votes, defeating Dilip Kumar Jaiswal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who secured 2,98,849 (32.19 per cent) votes.
 
Despite winning the last two Parliamentary elections, Mohamed Asrarul Haque was denied a ticked this time.

Kishanganj Parliamentary seat is situated in the Kishanganj district, a part of the Purnia division in Bihar. As per the 2011 census with a total population of 16,90,948 people. this constituency is primarily dominated by Muslims.

Lok Sabha elections in Bihar were held in seven phases from April 11, 18, 23, 29, May 6,12 and 19. The counting of votes will start on May 23. More than 8,000 candidates and 1,800 political parties are in the fray for 543 Lok Sabha seats.
