Kolkata: In a massive victory for our security forces, a top operative of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was arrested by Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Friday.

The search for Abdul ‘Boro’ Karim was on for over a year and he was wanted in several cases, such as arson, providing logistical support, shelter and weapons to top terror leaders.

Karim, who is known to be a very close associate of top JMB leader Salahuddin Salehin, was arrested from Suti Police Station area in Murshidabad and will be produced before the court later in the day.

The terrorist hails from Jangipur in Murshidabad district. Explosives and incriminating evidence were recovered from his residence around a year ago and his name was also mentioned among main operatives of JMB terrorists in Bangladesh.

“In 2018, we had seized substantial quantity of explosives and jihadi material from his house during a sudden raid but he escaped and we had been trying to arrest him since then. His name was mentioned as the main operative also by JMB terrorists in Bangladesh during their interrogation,” said Kolkata Police STF Deputy Commissioner Aparajita Rai.

Salahuddin Salehin has been absconding since 2014 and has been on the most-wanted list in Bangladesh and India. The National Investigation Agency has been chasing Salahuddin for his role in the Burdwan blast in 2014. Boro Karim is wanted in the Bodh Gaya blast in 2018 that took place within hours after Buddhist spiritual head the Dalai Lama delivered a sermon at the Mahabodhi temple.

“Abdul Karim was amongst the top three most wanted JMB terrorists in India. He was the main leader of the Dhuliyan module and would actively supply logistics and support, shelter to top leaders like Salahuddin Salehin,” Rai added.
