Lady IIC Transferred For Misbehaviour & Police Excess In Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A lady Inspector In-Charge(IIC) was transferred on charges of showing misbehavior and executing lathi charge on a mob in Puruna Bazaar area of Bhadrak last night.

As per reports, Puruna Bazaar police station IIC Pragyan Mohanty has been transferred to district police headquarters while Nayakanadihi IIC, Ratikanta Giri, has been posted as the new IIC in place of Mohanty.

According to sources, Mohanty entered a local cloth store and misbehaved with owner of the shop over some misunderstanding related to shopping items. In a fit of rage, the IIC reportedly threw several items out of the shop and also manhandled the owner.

As tension erupted in the area, shopkeepers in the market and local residents gathered near the spot and protested the police excess on the shopkeeper. When some people gheraoed the police vehicle, the IIC ordered baton charge to disperse the crowd.

Sources said at least two persons were injured during the incident. Apprehending any further flare up in the situation, IG Eastern Range Diptesh Patnaik and Bhadrak SP rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

After preliminary probe into the incident, IG Patnaik acknowledged charges of misbehaviour and police excess during the incident and assured to take immediate disciplinary action against the police IIC to pacify the situation.
