Lingayat seer Maate Mahadevi dies aged 75

Maate Mahadevi, the head of the Basava Dharma Peeta, passed away early on Thursday. Mahadevi was 75. She breathed her last at 4.45am.She was admitted to Manipal Hospitals in Bengaluru on March 9 as she was suffering from multiple organ failure.The woman seer from Kudalasangama was at the forefront of the movement for separate religious status for Lingayats.

Her mortal remains will be taken to her birth place Chitradurga on Friday and from there to Kudalasangama for the last rites.
