Liquor worth Rs 12.72 lakh seized in Pilibhit

PILIBHIT: An excise department team led by excise inspector Kaushalendra Kumar has seized 265 boxes of liquor stored in a small room built at a paddy field in Udra village under Amaria police station.

The estimated cost of the seized liquor — manufactured by Rana Sugar Limited in Punjab’s Taran Taran district under the name of ‘Royal Secret’ — is Rs 12.72 lakh, according to excise department officials, and it was meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh .

Following a tip off, a raid was conducted at the farm house around 8pm on Wednesday, but farm owner Lakhvinder Singh managed to flee the scene.

According to Kumar, as there is no licence issued in the name of the farm owner for selling liquor, and thus, the department believes the stocked liquor was illicit.

Kumar suspected that the farmer could be involved in illegal sale of liquor in the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand as Udra is a border village.

Lakhvinder Singh has been booked under relevant sections of the Excise Act. “We will soon file a case before the court against the accused,” added Kumar.
