Lockdown 4.0: 30 municipalities with 80% Covid caseload likely to see stricter curbs [Complete List]

New Delhi: The Centre has called a meeting of the heads of 30 municipal corporations across India which have 80% of the country's Covid-19 caseload.

The heads of these municipalities are expected to meet the Union Health Secretary, on Saturday, at the Health Ministry's headquarters in New Delhi and chalk out an exclusive plan for these particular areas, worst-affected in the pandemic,

Times Now has learnt.

These areas are expected to have stricter curbs as compared to other parts of the country as the government takes a surgical approach to the virus instead of a blanket nationwide lockdown.

The highly-focused Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines regarding the restrictions on the movement of goods and people will be finalised in the meeting and implemented today itself.

Times Now managed to access the list of these municipalities which are likely to face greater restrictions as compared to the rest of the nation.

These include Brihanmumbai, Greater Chennai, Ahmedabad, Thane, Delhi, Indore, Pune, Kolkata, Jaipur, Nashik, Jodhpur, Agra, Tiruvallur, Aurangabad, Cuddalore, Greater Hyderabad, Surat, Chengalpattu, Howrah, Ariyalur, Kundoor, Bhopal, Amritsar, Meerut, Viluppuram, Vadodra, Udaipur, Palghar, Behrampur, Solapur and Meerut.

Restrictions likely to be stricter in 30 districts in phase 4 of lockdown

Curbs on movements of goods and people in these 30 high-focus areas are likely to be stricter while states are likely to decide the extent of economic activity and restrictions in other parts.

Most states have demanded relaxations outside containment zones from the central government before the latter lays out the guidelines for the next phase of the lockdown.

Mizoram announced it was extending the lockdown till May 31 while the Bihar government urged the Centre to continue the unprecedented measure till the month-end besides keeping'rail and air traffic, other than the 'Shramik Special' trains for migrant labourers and evacuation flights, suspended during the period.

The national lockdown, first imposed by PM Narendra Modi on March 24 was slated to end on April 14 but was extended till May 3 and then again till May 17 with certain relaxations.
