Lovelorn couple end life in Banaskantha

Palanpur: After the woman’s family objected to their union , two love birds committed suicide in the Narmada canal near Mota Jampura in Kankrej Taluka on Tuesday afternoon. The bodies were recovered later after villagers saw their bodies floating in the canal with their hands tied with a sari in the morning and informed police.

The couple, who had eloped around two days ago, have been identified as Mamta Desai (22) resident of Khanpeda village in Patan district, and Shatish Prajapati (28) hailing from Dhaner village in Kanrej Taluka in Banaskantha.

While the woman was married, the man was single.

The woman’s family had filed a missing person’s complaint after they had eloped. Patan police was on the lookout of the woman, said police sub inspector PS Jadeja of Shihori police station.

After post mortem the bodies were handed over to their relatives, said Jadeja.
