Harsh Gujral talks about working for TV shows

When asked about the difference between working on TV shows and live performances, comedian Harsh Gujral said that TV gives him a chance to reshoot a particular segment, but in live performances, he can’t make any mistakes. Harsh said, “There is a lot of difference between television and live performances. In television, you still get a chance to reshoot, but in live shows, you're on stage and you only have that moment to make people laugh. Performing live is a little more difficult than on TV. But in television, you get a chance to reshoot if you fumble; you can hold on. But in live shows, you write something, and then you go forward to tell that joke to the audience, and they laugh, and you get your result at that moment only.”

While speaking about working for a TV show, Harsh Gujral said, “Television involves a lot of hard work. You have to shoot for 22 hours, sometimes doing 2 episodes in one day. The expectations are high; you have to deliver 2 episodes every week. But in live shows, I write my own joke and do the show; once you're ready, you perform. In TV, you have to write your own jokes, write roasts, do stand-up and then do the shooting. It's more hectic than live shows, but everyone has their own positive side.”

Harsh Gujral also revealed that he writes his own jokes, roasts and scripts for the show, Madness Machayenge. He said, “TV is a completely different and challenging format, but I'm enjoying the process of writing roasts, stand-up material, and hosting the show.”

The start of comedy journey

Harsh Gujral is an engineer. He used to do a corporate job for many years. When asked what inspired him to do comedy shows, the comedian said, “There weren't any specific moments, but in my office, I hosted shows where my manager praised me for hosting so well. Hosting is different from making jokes on the spot. Then, I began doing open mics, trying out new jokes. As a comedian, getting a 4-minute spot in Delhi or Mumbai is a different process. It takes 3-4 years of writing jokes, making videos, creating content, and posting them. This is how I generate ideas. If it hadn't worked out, I would have continued with my job, but at least I'm doing something I'm passionate about.”

Coming back to Madness Machayenge, the show is being judged by Huma Qureshi. The show also features Gaurav More, Ankita Shrivastav, Paritosh Tripathi, Gaurav Dubey and others.
