Malappuram int'l film fest from March 29

Malappuram: Actor Indrans, who won the state film award for best actor, will formally inaugurate the International Film Festival of Malappuram , organized by Rasmi Film Society, on March 29.

Vice-chancellor of Malayalam University, Anil Vallathol, would give away Rasmi-Sathyajith Ray Award instituted by the society to Indrans at the inaugural function.

Malayalam movie ‘Alorukkam’, in which Indrans played the lead role, would be the opening film of the fest.

A total of 11 movies would be screened at the festival, which would be held in Kottappadi bus stand auditorium in Malappuram town. The festival is being organized in association with Kerala Chalachithra Akademi, public relations department and Malappuram municipality.

Malayalam movie ‘Meena Masathile Sooryan’ directed by Lenin Rajendran would be screened under commemoration category.

Muhammed Rafi of Thunjathezhuthachan Malayalam university, who won the state film award for best article on cinema, will attend open forum discussion on the topic ‘New Trends in Malayalam Movies’ to be held on the second day of the fest.

The festival will conclude on March 31. Vice-chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam, Dr T K Narayanan will inaugurate the concluding function of the film fest in which the representatives of different social organizations and political parties would attend.
