Man detained with foreign cigarettes worth Rs 5.6 lakh

Jaipur: The customs department detained a cigarette smuggler when he landed at Jaipur International Airport from Dubai on Tuesday morning.

The accused, identified as Sikar resident Vinod Mandusiya, was carrying 194 cigarette packets (200 sticks in each packet) worth Rs 5,61,048 in his luggage. This is the second case within a week when customs department apprehended persons smuggling foreign cigarettes.



A customs department official told TOI, “The accused landed in Jaipur from Dubai in a private plane and was a carrier for smuggled goods. He had apparently gone abroad to look for a job, but when he could not find one, he became a carrier.”

According to officials, many Gulf countries have banned cigarettes which are now being smuggled into other nations. TNN
