Man lynched over theft suspicion in Rajkot, seven held

Rajkot: Seven factory labourers were arrested for beating a man to death after suspecting him to be a thief in Moti Khavdi village of Lalpur taluka in Jamnagar on Sunday.

According to police, the accused woke up early on Sunday morning following sound of someone breaking a window. Some of the labourers ran outside and nabbed a man in his early 30s and beat him up with wooden sticks and plastic PVC pipes.

Soon other occupants of the house joined them in thrashing the suspected thief. After the man lost consciousness, the accused informed the police. Cops took the man to hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Based on complaint lodged by contractor Avdesh Rajput, police arrested Prabhakar Tripathi, Yogesh Rajput, Manoj Singh, Sahil Ansari, Santosh Morya, Shivaji Yadav and Prakash Kumar. PSI D S Wadher of Meghpar police said all accused are from UP.
