Meet BJP's Trivendra Singh Rawat From Haridwar, Former Uttarakhand CM In Lok Sabha Battle For 1st Time

In Uttarakhand- 'Devbhoomi', it is a battle between former Chief Minister and former Chief Minister's son in Haridwar. Trivendra Singh Rawat, in his political career of three decades, is contesting Lok Sabha elections for the first time. The BJP replaced Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, country's former Education Minister and state's former Chief Minister and nominated Trivendra Singh Rawat instead of this time.

For Trivendra Singh Rawat, contesting the Lok Sabha elections is the first big political opportunity to come his way since his sudden removal as Uttarakhand chief minister in March 2021, barely a few before he was to complete four years in office. Nishank had won the seat in both the 2014 and the 2019 general elections. Rawat was Uttarakhand chief minister from March 2017. Nishank was replaced by Tirath Singh Rawat, who helmed affairs of the state for four months before being succeeded by Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Who is Trivendra Singh Rawat?

Trivendra Singh Rawat was Uttarakhand's eight Chief Minister, from 2017 till 2021, being replaced by Pushkar Singh Dhami. Trivendra Singh Rawat has a three-decade old political career. Rawat was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 1979 to 2002 and held the post of organizing secretary of the Uttarakhand region, and later the state, after its formation in 2000.

Trivendra Singh Rawat's Political Career

Trivendra Singh Rawat was elected from Doiwala in the Uttarakhand's first legislative assembly elections in 2002. He retained his seat in the 2007 elections and served as the state’s Minister of Agriculture. As a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he served as Jharkhand’s in-charge and Uttarakhand cadre’s president. Winning from Doiwala again in 2017, he was named the Chief Minister after his party won majority and formed the government.
