Migrant woman on way to Bhadohi gives birth to baby

KANPUR: A 25-year old woman travelling from Mumbai to Bhadohi in a bus with her migrant labourer husband gave birth to a baby boy at a community health centre (CHC) in Fatehpur district on Tuesday. The woman, Santara Devi , began to have labour pains so her husband had the bus stopped at a dhaba in Jahanabad area on Tuesday morning.



The family was on the way to Gopiganj area of Bhadohi with other migrant labourers amid the coronavirus lockdown. SDM Bindki Prahlad Singh said he had received a phone call from a migrant labourer Rajendra, wherein he had pleaded for medical aid as his wife was in labour pain. After taking details of their location, an ambulance was rushed to the spot.

"It took the woman to Jahanabad Community Health Centre, where she delivered a baby boy," said SDM further and added further, both the mother and baby were fine. Rajendra, the woman's husband, who used to work in a thread factory in Thane area of Mumbai, said he decided to leave Mumbai as he was jobless since the lockdown came into effect. He said that he had to changed five buses to reach Fatehpur with his pregnant wife from Thane area of Mumbai.

"At Jhansi , I tried to speak to authorities seeking medical help for my pregnant wife but in vain. It was when our bus reached a dhaba in Jahanabad area of Fatehpur on Tuesday morning, I asked the bus driver to stop. Soon someone guided me to speak to SDM Bindki, who proved to be of great help. My wife delivered baby boy at the Jahanabad CHC," he said, adding that the drivers of other four buses did not offer any help.
