Minor held for vandalizing Ambedkar statue in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Friday for allegedly damaging a statue of BR Ambedkar in Pichhore town of Shivpuri, MP, on Tuesday night.
He sells vegetables in a push cart near the statue but local residents would often force him to go elsewhere as a lot of events used to be held under the Ambedkar statue , he has told police.
This was affecting his livelihood and he damaged it out of frustration.
“We identified him on the basis of information given by residents who identified him on CCTV footage. Action is being taken against him,” said Shivpuri SP Rajesh Chandel.
The right arm and some other portions of the statue, installed near a bus stand, were damaged on Tuesday night, sparking tension in the region. Police had announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for information leading to arrest of the accused. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has announced a protest demonstration on August 8.
