Missing in Jind bypoll, Digvijay Chautala's Range Rover back in affidavit

CHANDIGARH: The Range Rover SUV which the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate and Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala’s younger brother, Digvijay Chautala, had allegedly not disclosed in his affidavit filed for contesting Jind by-election in January, has now been mentioned in Digvijay’s affidavit submitted for contesting parliamentary elections.

As per the affidavit, filed by Digvijay on April 23, 2019, he owns Range Rover car of 2011 model bearing registration number HR51AR4977. The price of the car has been shown to be Rs 25 lakhs.

Importantly, when Digvijay had contested Jind by-election, he had not disclosed about this car despite the RTA Faridabad showing him to be its owner.

TOI had reported about non-disclosure of the vehicle by Digvijay in his affidavit submitted at the time of filing nomination to contest by-election held in January this year for Jind assembly seat.

The documents accessed by TOI had confirmed that the SUV was in the name of Digvijay Chautala. The vehicle was registered on March 7, 2012, and was issued insurance certificate till February 23, 2027 by RTA Faridabad. Before that it was insured till February 23, 2019.

On verification on Thursday, it was found that validity of insurance has been extended up to February 23, 2027, and the vehicle is still in the name of Digvijay in the record of Faridabad RTA. Digvijay had claimed to have not committed any illegality in non-disclosure.

When TOI contacted Digvijay on Thursday he dismissed the entire matter as a non-issue. He said he had entered into an agreement with a second party regarding the sale of the vehicle but the deal could not be matured. But now he has got the vehicle back. “At that time I was not the owner of this vehicle. But now I own it and disclosed it in my affidavit. I don’t know why it has been made an issue,” Digvijay said.

Digvijay is younger son of former MP and JJP founder Ajay Singh Chautala . He is contesting the parliamentary election as JJP-AAP candidate from Sonepat seat against Congress candidate, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and BJP’s sitting MP, Ramesh Kaushik.
