MP: Two held with leopard carcass in Dewas

INDORE: Forest officials have arrested two persons with a carcass of leopard they killed by installing electric wires around an agriculture field in village Mandleshwar of Dewas district on Saturday.

The accused had installed the electric wires around 25 days ago, trapping the leopard. The wild cat was electrocuted, official sources said.



Acting on a tip-off, a team of forest officials raided servant quarters at Bagadi Sangam Ashram in Satwas tehsil and arrested one Gunnu alias Azaad with leopard hide and hair. During interrogation, he confessed having got the leopard electrocuted.

He led the team to hole dug in the ground, where the decayed body of the wild cat was recovered, sources said adding he claimed that two workers at the ashram, Mohkam of Betul and Chhotu Banjara of Mandleshwar had taken away a few body parts. Chhotu was later arrested.

Police have booked them under relevant sections of Wild Life Protection Act. The body of the leopard was sent to Indore for a post-mortem examination by a team of five doctors.
