MS Dhoni Creates History, Becomes First Wicketkeeper In The World To...

MS Dhoni created history as he became the first wicketkeeper in IPL to take 150 catches. He achieved the feat after he took the catch of Jitesh Sharma during the PBKS vs CSK clash. This was MS Dhoni's 192nd dismissal in the IPL. In addition to the catches, Dhoni also has 42 stumpings to his name. MS Dhoni is followed by Dinesh Karthik who has 141 catches.

Wriddhiman Saha is third on the list with 119 catches. Saha and Karthik don't have much cricket left thus Rishabh Pant could be the wicketkeeper who can break MS Dhoni's record in the near future. Pant so far has taken 75 catches in IPL.

Dhoni also created a unique record after he came into bat at No.9 against PBKS. This was the first time in IPL history that Dhoni batted below No. 8. Dhoni has assigned himself a specific role in IPL 2024 where he comes to face the final few deliveries and tries to hit as many sixes as possible. Since CSK had a few overs left, Dhoni sent Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur ahead of himself. However, Dhoni failed to do much with the bat against PBKS as he was dismissed for a duck by Harshal Patel.

Meanwhile, IPL 2024 could be MS Dhoni's last as a player. Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain ahead of the season and handed over the leadership reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad, which was a big indication that Dhoni would retire after the ongoing season.

Speaking about the match against PBKS, CSK could only score 167-9 in 20 overs, however, a sensational spell by Ravindra Jadeja, where he took three wickets for 20 runs, helped CSK restrict PBKS to 139-9 and win the game by 28 runs. The win has boosted CSK's hopes of playoffs. CSK have moved to third on the IPL points table and need just two wins in three games to qualify for the playoffs.
