Nashik: Fresh survey of scrap market next week

NASHIK: The scrap market on Satpur-Ambad Link Road that was demolished by the civic administration two years back is gradually coming up. A fresh survey will be conducted next week.

On Thursday, standing committee member Bhagwat Aarote asked for the update and was upset that no action was taken against the scrap shops that came up.

The civic administration said that they will be conducting a fresh survey because many of them had sought permission since they owned the land.

“The permission was sought for using the land for residential or commercial purpose. We gave the permission but took an affidavit from them that they will not do scrap business. Next week we will conduct a fresh survey and then take action accordingly,” said the officer.

The controversial scrap market at Satpur-Ambad Link Road was demolished in January 2017 as per the directions of the Bombay High Court. It was the biggest demolition in the history of Nashik. Shiv Sena corporator Dilip Datir had knocked the doors of the court in January 2011, prior to that he was following up the case filed by Nashik Municipal Corporation.

There were around 800 scrap shops in 30 acre of land. Most of the shopkeepers own the land.
