Nayab Saini fights in Kurukshetra, wife takes charge of his MLA seat

AMBALA/KURUKSHETRA: Haryana state minister Nayab Singh Saini’s wife, Suman, is substituting for her husband on his assembly constituency — Naraingarh — while he tries to win the parliamentary election from Kurukshetra.

Saini has been nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its candidate for Kurukshetra.

As he is busy in his election campaign there, his wife has taken over the responsibility of seeking votes in Naraingarh assembly seat for the party’s Ambala Lok Sabha constituency candidate, Rattan Lal Kataria. Ambala is going to be a hotly contested seat as former Union minister Selja Kumari is also contesting from here on a Congress ticket.

A source said Suman had taken to the field for one major reason — keeping the Naraingarh assembly seat within the family. She is hoping that the BJP would field her from the seat if her husband wins the MP election from Kurukshetra and vacates Naraingarh for it.

On Saturday, while campaigning with Kataria at Ambli village in Naraingarh block of Ambala district , Suman told a gathering of villagers thats she was a daughter and daughter-in-law of Naraingarh.

One of the nine assembly seats under Ambala Lok Sabha constituency, Naraingarh happens to have many Congress supporters, especially those of former MLA Ram Kishan Gurjar.

When TOI contacted Suman on her phone, her personal assistant, Sandeep, said she had been campaigning all day for Kataia. “She will be free at around 10.30pm,” he said.

A source said the BJP could nominate Suman as its candidate from Naraingarh if Nayab Saini wins from Kurukshetra and BJP gets a high percentage of votes from Naraingarh assembly seay for Ambala candidate Katria.
