In a major move to boost electric vehicle adoption , the Maharashtra cabinet has approved the Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, aiming to transform the state's mobility landscape by 2030. With a hefty budget of ₹1,993 crore, the policy offers a mix of financial incentives, toll waivers, and infrastructure upgrades to make EVs more appealing and accessible.

What’s New and Exciting?
The policy, greenlit under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, focuses on making EVs mainstream while strengthening local manufacturing. Buyers of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, private four-wheelers, and buses operated by government bodies will enjoy a 10% subsidy on the vehicle’s base price. Electric cargo vehicles and tractors get an even bigger boost — up to 15% subsidy.

But that's not all. In a bid to ease "range anxiety" and make long trips smoother, the government plans to set up EV charging stations every 25 kilometers along national highways. This move is expected to be a game-changer for intercity electric travel.

Perks for EV Drivers

  • No registration fees for EVs.

  • Toll-free rides for electric cars and buses on key expressways like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu.

  • On other highways, EVs will pay just 50% of the standard toll.

The policy also introduces the Clean Mobility Transition Model, offering purchase incentives through 2030 to encourage long-term adoption of cleaner transport.

With this comprehensive and forward-looking policy, Maharashtra is clearly putting the pedal to the metal in driving a cleaner, greener future.
