Skoda Superb Generation 4 Unleashed: What's New & Exciting?
Skoda Superb: After building anticipation with a series of images, teasers, and sketches, Czech automaker Skoda has officially revealed the fourth-generation Skoda Superb. This latest iteration showcases modern styling, enhanced dynamics, additional features, updated powertrain options, and more. The new Superb will be available as a sedan and estate globally, though in India, Skoda will introduce the sedan variant.
Design and Aerodynamics
In terms of design, the new Skoda Superb maintains a familiar look from the previous generation but incorporates a few notable changes. The front features a butterfly grille flanked by sleek LED headlights and redesigned bumpers with larger intakes.
Along the sides, the new Superb boasts sharp creases and multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, it is adorned with wraparound LED taillights and sharp creases. Notably, the sedan has grown by 43mm in overall length and has achieved a 10-15% increase in aerodynamic efficiency.
Exterior highlights include a shark fin antenna, LED Matrix beam headlights, LED rear lights with crystalline elements, and more. The Superb will be offered in six new colour schemes in addition to standard shades like white, silver, grey, and brown.
Interior Enhancements
Inside, the new Superb features a redesigned dashboard layout, with a prominent free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and small rotary dials beneath it, accompanied by a small embedded screen.
The car's interior boasts hidden air vents with vertical fins, and Skoda proudly emphasises that the upholstery is constructed entirely from recycled polyester. A notable change in this generation is the placement of the gear selector on the steering wheel column, reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz models.
Feature-Rich Cabin
The new Superb doesn't disappoint when it comes to features. It includes a 13.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster with a heads-up display, USB Type-C ports, 15W wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, and more.
Furthermore, the Superb is equipped with level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), park assist, 10 airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), traction control, ISOFIX mounts, and various safety features.
An intriguing addition is the emergency assist program, where the car can take control in emergencies, bring the vehicle to a halt, and contact emergency services. Skoda also offers a "Simply Clever" list, which includes practical items like an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap and an umbrella in the front door pocket, made from sustainable materials.
Powertrain Diversity
Regarding powertrains and gearboxes, the new Superb offers six engine options: three petrol, two diesel, and a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
The range includes a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 150 hp, a larger 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine with two states of tune, offering 204 hp or 265 hp, with the latter featuring all-wheel drive. On the diesel front, there's a 2.0-litre TDI engine available in two states of tune, providing 150 hp or 193 hp, with the latter also having all-wheel drive. The PHEV combines a 1.5-litre TSI engine with electric motors for a total power output of 204 hp. It comes with a 25.7-kWh battery pack and an electric-only range of up to 100 km, as per Skoda's claims.
