Competitive Predictions
The election is expected to be fiercely contested, with ABVP having secured the president's post seven times in the previous ten years, and NSUI gaining substantial attention in recent years. However, AISA and SFI, united under the Left Unity banner, are also poised to offer stiff competition.
Issues of Concern
ABVP's national media coordinator, Ashutosh Singh, outlined the organisation's key concerns, including women's safety, inclusivity, infrastructure improvement, supplementary exams, provision of sanitary vending machines for every department, hostel facilities, and fees for PG courses. ABVP has garnered strong student support with their "one course, one fee" slogan.
NSUI, led by National General Secretary Lokesh Chugh, emphasises women's empowerment and safety as paramount issues. Additionally, NSUI is advocating for youth-special buses, enhanced library and auditorium facilities in colleges, and modernising outdated college infrastructure.
AISA's primary agenda for DUSU 2023 includes preventing course dilution, reversing the new internal scheme, halting fee increases, expanding English language options, offering concessional metro passes, establishing GSCASH for gender justice, enforcing room rent control laws, and ensuring hostel accommodations for all students.
As the stage is set for the DUSU Elections 2023, the nominated candidates face a challenging task ahead in their quest to address these pressing student issues and secure victory.
