'CID' Star Dinesh Phadnis, Who Played Fredericks, Passes Away In Mumbai Due To Liver Damage

Dinesh Phadnis , known for his role as Fredricks in the iconic crime show CID , bid farewell last night. The actor, grappling with health issues, passed away around midnight at Mumbai's Tunga hospital. His battle came to an end after days of critical condition while on ventilator support.


His sudden decline had sparked concerns earlier, with reports circulating of a heart attack that left him fighting for his life at Tunga hospital. The CID family received the distressing news about his health deteriorating on Friday, December 1.

Confirming the news, Dinesh's close friend and co-star, Dayanand Shetty , shared, "Yes, it's true he is no more. It happened around 12:08 am. I am at his residence right now. His last rites will be conducted today at the Daulat Nagar crematorium. Almost everyone from the CID is present right now."


Shetty shed light on Phadnis 's deteriorating health, mentioning that his liver suffered damage due to the side effects of other medications he had been taking for a separate ailment.

Despite the passing years, the bond within the CID team remained strong, often leading to mini reunions, as shared by Shetty.


Dinesh Phadnis was a familiar face on Indian television, renowned for portraying cops in various projects. His stint as Inspector Fredericks in CID for over a decade made him a household name. He donned the cop avatar in Adaalat and made a special appearance as an inspector in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Beyond the small screen, Phadnis essayed police inspector roles in movies like Sarfarosh (1999) alongside Aamir Khan, Officer (2001) starring Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon, and was part of Hrithik Roshan's Super 30.

Apart from acting, Phadnis was also credited for contributing to some CID episodes as a writer, showcasing his multifaceted talent.

Dinesh Phadnis's demise leaves behind fond memories of his impactful roles, marking the end of an era for fans who cherished his work both on television and the big screen.
