India Triumphs At The Grammys: Shankar Mahadevan's Shakti Clinches Best Global Music Album Award

Grammy Awards 2024: India achieved significant success at this year's Grammys, with Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's band Shakti clinching the Best Global Music Album award for 'This Moment.' The ensemble, which includes guitarist John McLaughlin, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, emerged victorious at the prestigious awards ceremony.


Indian music composer and Grammy winner Ricky Kej extended his congratulations to the band by sharing a video of their acceptance speech on stage. Kej posted the video on his official X account, expressing, “SHAKTI wins a Grammy!!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!! #IndiaWinsGrammys.”


During his address, Shankar Mahadevan expressed gratitude to his wife for consistently standing by his side. “Thank you boys and thank you god, family, friends and India. We are proud of you India. Last but not the least, I’d like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to,” Shankar said.


Miley Cyrus secured her inaugural Grammy award in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for her chart-topping track "Flowers," triumphing over fellow nominees Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift. Stepping onto the stage to receive the honor presented by Mariah Carey, Cyrus initiated her acceptance speech with a gracious shoutout to Carey. “This MC Is Gonna Stand by This MC,” Cyrus said, adding “this is just too iconic.”
