BSF Shoots Pakistani Intruder Attempting to Cross Border in Punjab
On May 8, 2025, the Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Pakistani national attempting to cross the International Border (IB) into India in Punjab's Ferozepur sector during the night of May 7-8. This incident occurred amidst heightened security following Indian forces' cross-border strikes, and in a separate event, another Pakistani national was detained in Gurdaspur for a similar attempt, while a Pakistani Ranger was arrested in Rajasthan.
The BSF reported that the intruder was observed crossing the IB and moving towards the border fence under the cover of darkness. Despite being challenged by BSF troops, the individual continued to advance. This prompted the personnel to open fire, resulting in the intruder's death on the spot.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of heightened security and alertness along the India-Pakistan border. This follows Indian forces' cross-border missile strikes that targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes, codenamed Operation Sindoor, were launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
Earlier in the week, another Pakistani national was detained in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. This individual was apprehended for allegedly attempting to cross into Indian territory.
Officials identified the individual as Muhammad Hussain. He has since been handed over to the Punjab Police and is currently in custody. Authorities recovered Pakistani currency and a Pakistan National Identity Card from him.
Prior to that incident, a Pakistani Ranger was arrested in Rajasthan. The arrest was made for a similar attempted border crossing.
A preliminary investigation suggested the Ranger may have entered for espionage or reconnaissance purposes. Officials stated that he remains under questioning by the BSF.
“The Border Security Force (BSF) has shot dead a Pakistani intruder along the International Border in Punjab,” officials said on Thursday (May 8, 2025).
“The man was shot during the intervening night of May 7-8 in the Ferozepur sector,” they said.
“He was found crossing the International Border purposefully in the dark,” the officials said, adding that the body has been handed over to Punjab police.
The BSF remains vigilant along the border, addressing each attempted intrusion with necessary action. The focus remains on maintaining the security and integrity of the International Border.
