'Drone pakoras' Amid India-Pakistan Tensions, An Army Veteran Introduces a New Snack To The Table
Even in the midst of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, a dash of humour found its way into the conversation-courtesy of Lt Gen KJS Dhillon (Retd). On Sunday, he posted a witty remark on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Drone pakoras. A new snack in air defence regiments. Jai Hind,” alongside a picture of pakoras shaped like miniature drones.
While the joke brought a smile to many faces, the backdrop is far from light-hearted.
Pakistan has been ramping up the use of drones-especially kamikaze and armed UAVs-to infiltrate Indian airspace . These drones, often designed to explode on impact or drop bombs before self-destructing, pose a real threat.
In a large-scale offensive on the night of May 8–9, nearly 300 to 400 drones were detected across India’s western border—from Leh in the north to Sir Creek in the south. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh reported drone activity at 36 different points, many targeting military zones.
Thankfully, Indian forces have been quick and efficient in response, using a mix of physical and electronic countermeasures to intercept and neutralize many of these UAVs.
However, the gravity of the situation hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Indian Army issued a stern warning, noting that these drone incursions not only endanger military assets but also threaten civilian lives and places of worship. A Defence Ministry spokesperson stated, “Our forces are watching. Don’t test our patience, or our radar systems.”
