Starting April 1, 2024, the National Pension System ( NPS ) has enhanced its login process to include Aadhaar-based two-factor authentication. This new security measure, implemented by the Central Record-Keeping Agency (CRA) of NPS, was mandated by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) to increase security for NPS subscribers and stakeholders.
What is Aadhaar Two-Factor Authentication ?
The two-factor authentication system requires users to verify their identity using Aadhaar in addition to the traditional user ID and password. This extra layer of security involves fingerprint verification, helping to prevent spoofing attempts and ensuring safer transactions on the NPS platform.
Account Lock and Password Reset
With the new login rules, the NPS CRA will automatically lock an account if an incorrect password is entered five times consecutively. Users can reset their password by answering a secret question. If the secret question is forgotten, users will need to request a reissue of their I-PIN to regain account access.
