Independence Day 2024: Celebrating 77th or 78th? Discover How To Join The Har Ghar Tiranga And Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaigns
India is gearing up to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, a significant milestone that marks the country's liberation from colonial rule in 1947. This year, while commemorating the 78th Independence Day , the nation will also honor the 77th anniversary of its freedom. The celebrations will be marked by the nationwide ' Har Ghar Tiranga ' campaign, a call for all Indians to display the national flag with pride.
'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign: A National Call to Action
The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, now in its third year, runs from August 9 to August 15, 2024. This initiative seeks to foster national pride and unity by encouraging every Indian household to hoist the national flag. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, highlighted the campaign's goal, stating, "The initiative aims to instill spirit of patriotism and national pride among citizens by encouraging every Indian to hoist the national flag."
In a bid to make the campaign a sweeping national movement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown his support by updating his profile picture to feature the national flag and urging others to do the same. Citizens are also invited to participate by sharing selfies with the flag on the Har Ghar Tiranga (HGT) portal, further spreading the message of patriotism.
' Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam ' Campaign: Greening India
Complementing the Independence Day festivities is the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A Tree in the Name of Mother) campaign, launched by the Ministry of Defence. This nationwide tree-planting drive, which started on World Environment Day , June 5, aims to plant 15 lakh trees across the country. The initiative involves collaboration among the three armed services and affiliated organizations such as DRDO, defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, and ordnance factories.
"The plantation drive is part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and will be conducted through the three Services, and associated organisations such as DRDO, defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, ordnance factories," the defence ministry announced.
As India prepares to mark this dual celebration, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' and 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaigns embody the spirit of patriotism and environmental stewardship, offering citizens meaningful ways to contribute to their nation’s pride and preservation.
