With the Income Tax Department having notified ITR forms for the financial year 2024–25, the filing window is expected to open soon. The deadline has been set as 31 July 2025. If your PAN card is inactive or not linked with Aadhaar, you may not be able to file your income tax return (ITR). Many taxpayers are unaware of their PAN status or its linkage with Aadhaar — a crucial requirement for smooth ITR filing.

Why PAN–Aadhaar Linking is Important

A common issue faced by taxpayers is the rejection of ITRs due to an inactive PAN or missing PAN–Aadhaar linkage. The Income Tax Department mandates that PAN must be active and linked with Aadhaar to ensure compliance. Fortunately, you can check the status and complete the linking process from the comfort of your home.
