Night Travel On Railways Just Got Stricter: Fines For Passengers Who Violate New Regulations
We have all likely traveled by train at some point, but it's crucial to be aware of certain rules while doing so. Violating railway regulations , even inadvertently, can lead to significant trouble. Breaking these rules can result in fines or even jail time. Here are some important rules to remember for a safe and hassle-free journey.
Do Not Carry Explosive Items
Railway regulations strictly prohibit carrying explosives or flammable items on trains. If you're caught with items such as firecrackers, kerosene oil, petrol, or gas cylinders, you could be fined ₹1000 and jailed for up to 3 years under Section 164 of the Railway Act 1989.
Avoid Disturbances at Night
To ensure passengers can rest undisturbed, TTEs (Traveling Ticket Examiners) do not check tickets at night. Passengers are also expected to be considerate of others' sleep. Talking loudly or playing music at night could result in complaints from fellow passengers and potential trouble for you.
Smoking Will Cost You Dearly
Smoking or drinking alcohol on trains or at railway stations is strictly forbidden. If a TTE catches you doing this, you could face a fine and up to 3 years in jail. The railway authorities strongly advise passengers to refrain from smoking or consuming alcohol during their journeys.
Traveling Without a Ticket
Traveling without a ticket is a punishable offense. Despite this, overcrowding in reserved coaches is often reported. If you're caught traveling without a ticket during a night journey, the TTE can fine you and may also take you to jail.
To avoid penalties and ensure a smooth journey, make sure to adhere to these rules and be mindful of your fellow passengers.
