In a recent verdict, the Allahabad High Court cleared Surinder Koli , the prime accused in 12 cases related to the notorious 2005-06 Nithari serial killings . Meanwhile, his co-accused, Moninder Singh Pandher, was also acquitted in two cases. As a result, the death sentences previously handed to them in these cases have been revoked.
The spine-chilling Nithari murder case, unveiled in 2006, revolved around the discovery of multiple human remains near Pandher's residence in Noida Sector 31, Uttar Pradesh. The horrifying killings allegedly transpired between 2005 and 2006, with Koli facing accusations of abducting, raping, and murdering numerous children in the vicinity of Noida's Nithari village.
Koli's modus operandi was nothing short of nightmarish. He reportedly lured innocent children to Pandher's house with sweets and chocolates before subjecting them to unimaginable horrors. These included acts of necrophilia and even cannibalism, painting a picture of absolute horror.
The Nithari case first gained national attention in December 2006 when skeletons were discovered in a drain near Pandher's residence. Moninder Singh Pandher, Koli's employer, was also implicated in the case.
These shocking events, reminiscent of other infamous murder cases that have shaken the nation since the '90s, serve as a grim reminder of the dark underbelly that can exist in our society.
Shraddha Walkar Murder Case
As the investigation progresses into the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walkar at the hands of her live-in partner, Aftab Poonawala , a series of chilling details has come to light. These revelations have left the entire nation in a state of shock. Yet, this tragic incident is not an isolated occurrence that has unsettled the nation. The Shraddha murder case has rekindled memories of past gruesome killings.
Shakereh Murder Case
The first case that sent shockwaves through the nation was the Shakereh murder case in 1991. Shakereh Namazi was reportedly buried alive in the backyard of her Bengaluru (then Bangalore) home on May 28, 1991. The prime suspect, her second husband, Swami Shradananda (formerly known as Murali Manohar Mishra), eventually confessed to the murder after a three-year investigation. He admitted to killing his wife to gain possession of her wealth and led the police to her remains buried in her residence in 1994. He is currently serving a life sentence.
Naina Sahni Murder Case
Another horrifying case was the Naina Sahni Murder Case, widely known as the 'tandoor murder scandal.' Naina Sahni, a member of the Congress party, was brutally murdered by her husband, Sushil Sharma, a youth Congress leader, due to suspicions of her having an extramarital affair. The murder took place in their Delhi home on July 2, 1995. In a gruesome act, Sharma shot her while intoxicated, dismembered her body, and concealed the pieces in a 'tandoor' (clay oven) on the roof of a restaurant managed by his friend.
These cases are a stark reminder of the depths of darkness that can exist within the human psyche. The Nithari serial killings, like these other gruesome incidents, continue to haunt the collective memory of the nation, serving as a grim reminder of the horrors that can lurk beneath the surface of society.
