PM Modi Pays Tribute To Mahatma Gandhi, Highlights His Global Significance, WATCH
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the ' Father of the Nation ,' Mahatma Gandhi, today on his 154th birth anniversary. PM Modi emphasised that Gandhi motivated "the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion."
He posted on X, "I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti . His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. Mahatma Gandhi's impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion. May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over."
Subsequently, PM Modi offered his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in the nation's capital. Delhi LG VK Saxena, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and other dignitaries also gathered at Rajghat to pay their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
This past Sunday, PM Modi took the lead in the ' Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan ' campaign, spearheading a massive cleanliness initiative in preparation for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Modi was observed actively participating in the cleanup effort, wielding a broom alongside wrestler-turned-social media influencer Ankit Baiyanpuriya.
Swachh Bharat Diwas or Swachhta Diwas is commemorated annually on October 2 to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti. During this event, both politicians and ordinary citizens engage in various activities, including sweeping and garbage collection, as part of a nationwide effort to promote cleanliness.
On October 2, we also celebrate the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, India's second Prime Minister. PM Modi remembered his "unwavering commitment to India's progress" and said his "iconic call for 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' resonate even today."
