Prime Minister Narendra Modi Pays Homage To Jawaharlal Nehru On His 59th Death Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to India's first Prime Minister , Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru , on his 59th death anniversary (27 May 1964), acknowledging his significant contributions.

"On his death anniversary, I pay tributes to our former PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru," the Prime Minister said in a tweet.

Nehru, a prominent figure in India's freedom struggle, became the country's first Prime Minister following independence in 1947.

Nehru played a pivotal role in the fight against British rule in India as a key leader of the Indian National Congress (INC), contributing significantly to the country's struggle for independence.

On May 27, 1964, at the age of 74, Nehru passed away, concluding a remarkable tenure as the Prime Minister of India for over 16 years, from 1947 until his demise.

Nehru had a profound affection for children, earning him the endearing title of "Chacha Nehru." In honor of his deep connection with young minds, his birthday is celebrated annually as Children's Day. This day serves as a reminder of Nehru's dedication to the well-being and education of children across the nation.
