Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a remarkable performance that etched his name in the record books during India 's campaign at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The Indian cricket team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad , faced Nepal in the quarterfinal match at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field on Tuesday.

Jaiswal achieved a historic milestone by becoming India's first-ever centurion at the multi-sport event while also surpassing Shubman Gill 's recently established T20I record.

The Indian opening batter, achieved the distinction of becoming the youngest T20I centurion at the age of 21 during the Asian Games 2023 clash against Nepal. This remarkable feat was accomplished in the 16th over of the innings when the left-handed batter nudged a single on the leg side and jubilantly acknowledged the milestone by touching his helmet in celebration.

He broke Gill's record as India's youngest centurion in T20I cricket. Gill had achieved this feat earlier in the year against New Zealand when he scored an unbeaten 126, the highest individual score by an Indian in the shortest format. At the time of his remarkable innings, Gill was 23 years and 146 days old.

In the quarterfinal match, Jaiswal displayed excellent form as he took on the Nepal bowlers in what marked India's debut appearance in cricket at the Asian Games.

In only his sixth T20I appearance, he reached the century mark in just 48 deliveries. Jaiswal also became the second left-handed Indian batsman to score a century in this format, following the legendary Suresh Raina. Other notable Indian batters who have achieved this feat include Gill, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma , Suryakumar Yadav , and Deepak Hooda .

Earlier in the summer of 2023, Jaiswal had made his international debut in the Test format for India, where he scored a magnificent and record-breaking 171 runs against West Indies in Dominica during the opening match.

During Tuesday's match, Jaiswal played a crucial role in a 100-run opening partnership, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad contributing 25 runs.
