Elimination Blow for 3 Teams – Here's What the Remaining 7 Must Do to Reach IPL Playoffs

With the IPL 2025 season reaching its final leg, three teams — Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) — have officially exited the playoffs race. CSK was the first to be knocked out, followed by RR, and most recently SRH after their latest match. This leaves seven teams still fighting for a place in the top four.

Among the remaining contenders are Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Mumbai Indians (MI), Gujarat Titans (GT), Delhi Capitals (DC), defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). With the top four teams separated by just two points, the competition remains intense and unpredictable.

Here’s how the playoffs picture looks for each of the remaining teams:

RCB (11 Matches – 8 Wins – 3 Losses – 16 Points)

Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB has been in superb form this season. They’re set to play LSG, SRH, and KKR in their final league games. Two wins from these three will almost certainly guarantee them a playoffs spot. Even one win might suffice, though that will depend on other match outcomes. Winning all three will almost confirm a top-two finish.

PBKS (11 Matches – 7 Wins – 3 Losses – 15 Points)

Led by Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings are looking to break their playoff drought. They face DC, MI, and RR in their remaining games. Two wins will ensure qualification, while one win could still keep them in the race depending on other results.

MI (11 Matches – 7 Wins – 4 Losses – 14 Points)

The Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians have made a strong comeback after a sluggish start. With games against GT, PBKS, and DC coming up, MI holds the best Net Run Rate (NRR) among all teams. A single win could keep their hopes alive, while two or more victories would strengthen their playoff chances significantly. Winning all three would guarantee a top-four finish.

GT (10 Matches – 7 Wins – 3 Losses – 14 Points)

GT will play MI, DC, LSG, and CSK in their remaining four matches. Thanks to a solid NRR, winning three of these fixtures should be enough to secure qualification. Winning all four could land them in the top two.

DC (11 Matches – 6 Wins – 4 Losses – 13 Points)

After a strong start, Axar Patel's Delhi Capitals have seen a dip in momentum. A poor show against SRH saw them slump to 29/5 before settling at 133/7 in a rain-affected game. They next face MI, GT, and PBKS—all teams fighting for the playoffs. DC must win all three to stay firmly in the race. A single or double win may not be enough and would require help from other results.

KKR (11 Matches – 5 Wins – 5 Losses – 11 Points)

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders have a narrow pathway to the playoffs. Their upcoming fixtures include CSK, SRH, and RCB. If they win all three, they'll move to 17 points — which could be sufficient — but they’ll still rely on other outcomes to go their way.

LSG (11 Matches – 5 Wins – 6 Losses – 10 Points)

Lucknow Super Giants are in a similarly precarious position. Even if they win their next three games against RCB, GT, and SRH, they’ll still need favourable results from other matches. Another loss would knock them out completely, limiting their maximum to 16 points.
