Afghanistan has unveiled its T20I squad for the forthcoming 3-match series against Sri Lanka scheduled for Monday, 12 February. However, the Afghan team will be competing with a depleted lineup as they will be playing without the notable contributions of star spin bowlers , Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan .

According to a press release from the ACB, Mujeeb sustained a hand injury ahead of the ongoing ODI series, presumably during his participation in the ILT20 League in the United Arab Emirates.

Afghanistan's T20I captain, Rashid Khan, remains unavailable due to an ongoing recovery process following surgery right after the ODI World Cup. Despite his reputation as one of the finest contemporary spinners, Rashid has been absent from professional cricket, including tournaments such as BBL, PSL, T20I series against India, and the upcoming 3-match series against Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan has changed their T20I squad, omitting wicketkeeper-batter Ikram Alikhil and top-order batter Rahmat Shah. Instead, Mohammad Ishaq, initially selected for the one-off Test against Sri Lanka, has been included in the T20I team.

With Rashid Khan unavailable, Ibrahim Zadran will remain the T20I team captain. Afghanistan is anticipating an improved performance in their preferred T20 format, having faced defeat in both the one-off Test match and the ODI series. Despite glimpses of brilliance during the Sri Lanka tour, the Afghan team is yet to secure a victory in any match.
