IPL 2024: Adam Gilchrist Raises Concerns Over Team Dynamics In MI Post Pandya's Dhoni Comment

Mumbai Indians are enduring a rough patch, making headlines for the wrong reasons as their fortunes take a downturn. The return of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians, this time as captain, was anticipated to provide a boost to the team's spirits, yet the outcome has been quite the opposite.

Rohit Sharma 's departure from the captaincy left fans disillusioned, and Hardik is met with boos wherever he plays.
However, following Mumbai Indians' loss to Chennai Super Kings , Hardik found himself not only questioned as a captain but also regarding his bowling and batting abilities.

In analysing Hardik's remarks post-match regarding the defeat, Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist offered an insightful perspective, suggesting that all may not be well within the Mumbai Indians camp.

"High-profile teams are a victim of their own success. There are often trades that come out of the blue, and fans feel like, 'hand on, we are not invested in this'. They feel that they are part of this big picture and hence feel blindsided. The way this Hardik traded came out of nowhere and the transition from Rohit to Hardik...whether Rohit was happy or not or if he was considered or not. So that is where this feeling is coming," remarked Gilchrist on Cricbuzz.

Hardik's remark regarding Chennai Super Kings benefitting from Dhoni 's guidance hinted at a potential rift within the Mumbai Indians squad.

"There's a man behind the stumps who tells them what's working," noted Hardik.

Offering his interpretation of this statement, Gilchrist remarked, "That line about Dhoni is interesting. It tells that maybe he is feeling a bit of a lone wolf at the moment. Maybe it is all having a bit of an effect because he is having the feeling that he has not got support around him. But his observation of the opposition is that hang on, he (Gaikwad) has got the support there, an experienced one obviously. It tells me a bit about the mindset of Hardik at the moment and the uncertainty and hesitation in the MI dugout."

With just 2 wins from 6 games, Mumbai Indians find themselves languishing at the 8th position in the points table, while Chennai Super Kings have ascended to the 3rd spot.
