IPL 2025 Final: Why BCCI May Choose Ahmedabad Over Kolkata

Cricket fans, rejoice! The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is back on track and set to resume from May 17. The league, which was briefly halted due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, is returning sooner than expected following a ceasefire agreement between the India and Pakistan.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had initially suspended the tournament for a week. However, after intensive consultations with the government, security agencies, and key stakeholders, the green light has been given to continue the season.

What’s Next for IPL 2025?

Seventeen matches remain, including four playoff games. These fixtures will be spread across six cities: Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Mumbai. The final is now set for June 3.

Venue Twist for the Final

Originally, the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata was slated to host the final—especially significant as it’s the home ground of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, weather concerns may spoil that plan. With monsoon forecasts predicting heavy rain around the final, the BCCI is likely to shift the showdown to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Importantly, this venue change is driven purely by weather concerns and not linked to the recent geopolitical issues. Kolkata may also lose out on hosting two playoff matches due to the looming rain threat.

The BCCI is monitoring the monsoon situation closely and will announce the final venues soon.
