A Topsy-Turvy First Inning for Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders found themselves in a spot of trouble right from the outset in their first inning against Mumbai Indians . The match kicked off with Trent Boult's mesmerizing bowling performance, sending Kolkata's batting lineup in disarray.

Early Setbacks

Kolkata started their innings with a setback as Sunil Narine faced a two-ball duck, bowled clean by Boult's brilliant delivery and was soon followed by Quinton de Kock who fell prey to Deepak Chahar, scoring just 1 run. By the end of the second over, Kolkata were reeling at 2/2.

Raghuvanshi's Arrival

Amidst early jitters, Angkrish Raghuvanshi gave them a glimmer of hope smashing two boundaries off Deepak Chahar in the second over.

  • Beautifully timed flick shots, one through mid-wicket, another through covers

However, his resilience couldn't change Kolkata's fate for long. Raghuvanshi did manage to send one over the boundary for a six off Ashwani Kumar in the 3rd over, before being caught at deep mid-wicket by Naman Dhir at Hardik Pandya's bowling at 45/5.

Pandey and Singh Stabilize

Rinku Singh and Manish Pandey tried to stabilize Kolkata's innings after pivotal blows. Pandey's attacking play, including a six in the 7.3 overs off Kumar’s bowling, added crucial runs to the score. The team then took the strategic time-out at 65/5 after 9 overs.

The tailenders did show brief resistance, but Mumbai's bowlers kept pecking away at the wickets. By the 10th over Kolkata’s score read 69/5.
