In a high-stakes clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Punjab Kings delivered a commanding performance to knock Chennai Super Kings out of the IPL 2025 playoff race with a four-wicket win on Wednesday. With this result, CSK became the first team to be officially eliminated from the tournament.

The win lifted Punjab to second place on the points table with 13 points from 10 matches — just one behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru . In stark contrast, CSK hit a historic low, slumping to their fifth consecutive home defeat and remaining rooted at the bottom with only 4 points from 10 games.

CSK looked set for a big total after being put in to bat. Sam Curran was in punishing form, smashing 88 off just 47 balls — his highest IPL score — and building a solid 78-run partnership with Dewald Brevis (32). But the momentum shifted dramatically when Yuzvendra Chahal produced magic in the 19th over, grabbing four wickets including a hat-trick. What looked like a 200+ total collapsed to 190 all out in 19.2 overs.

Punjab’s reply was solid and assured. Prabhsimran Singh hit a fluent 54 off 36 deliveries, giving his side a steady start alongside Priyansh Arya (23). From there, captain Shreyas Iyer took over with a clinical 72 off 41 balls, steering the chase calmly and sealing victory with two balls to spare.

It was a day of contrasting emotions — jubilation for Punjab Kings, whose playoff push is back on track, and heartbreak for CSK, who now face the harsh reality of a forgettable season.
