The 2024 season of the Indian Premier League ( IPL ) has concluded, with Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR ) emerging victorious after an impressive performance throughout the tournament. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, KKR secured the top spot in the league stage with 19 points and triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad ( SRH ) in Qualifier 1 to advance to the IPL 2024 final.
In the final showdown, KKR once again faced SRH and emerged victorious, thanks to a crucial half-century by Venkatesh Iyer and a disciplined performance from their fast bowlers. This victory secured KKR their third IPL title, along with a prize of Rs 20 crore. SRH, as the runners-up, received Rs 13 crore.
The IPL has solidified its status as the premier T20 franchise league globally, boasting some of the highest prize money among its competitors.
The SA20 league in South Africa is the closest in terms of prize money. In 2024, Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the title and received 34 million Rand (Rs 15.4 crore).
Following SA20 is the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where the winners in 2023, Guyana Amazon Warriors, were awarded USD 1 million (Rs 8.3 crore). Trinbago Knight Riders finished as runners-up.
In the International League T20 (ILT20), MI Emirates clinched the title in 2024, with Dubai Capitals as runners-up. MI Emirates took home USD 700,000 (Rs 5.8 crore) in prize money.
The Pakistan Super League ( PSL ) and the Big Bash League ( BBL ) lag behind in terms of prize money compared to the IPL. The PSL 2024 season saw Islamabad United defeating Multan Sultans to win Rs 4.13 crore, while the runners-up received Rs 1.65 crore. In the BBL, Brisbane Heat claimed the title and USD 450,000 (Rs 3.7 crore) in prize money.
