Prithvi Shaw Makes Comeback For Mumbai In Ranji Trophy 2024 Clash Against Bengal Following Knee Injury Recovery
Ranji Trophy 2024: Opener Prithvi Shaw has been named in Mumbai's squad for the Group B encounter against Bengal scheduled for February 2. Shaw has successfully recuperated from a knee injury sustained in August 2023.
In a significant development, opening batter Prithvi Shaw is poised for a comeback to the Mumbai squad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 season. Having received the clearance from the National Cricket Academy, Shaw has been included in the Mumbai team for the upcoming match against Bengal in Kolkata, commencing on February 2.
Shaw had been on the sidelines from competitive cricket since sustaining a knee injury in August 2023. The injury occurred while he was representing Northamptonshire in England's One-Day Championship against Durham. Consequently, he missed both last year's Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai.
Road To Recovery
Shaw underwent a comprehensive rehabilitation program under the medical team at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The 24-year-old, making a comeback after a six-month hiatus, aims to sharpen his batting prowess in preparation for the IPL 2024.
He is set to feature for Delhi Capitals in the 17th edition of the league, eager to leave a mark after a relatively subdued performance with the bat in the previous season. The Mumbai batter, who made his international debut for India in 2018, has featured in 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I for the national team.
Mumbai, the most successful team in the Ranji Trophy, aims to maintain its leading position in the group stage against Bengal. Prithvi Shaw, known for his aggressive approach at the top of the order, is eager to make significant batting contributions as Mumbai strives to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
Mumbai Squad Gets A Boost
Mumbai currently leads Group B in the points table with 20 points, securing victories in 3 out of the 4 matches played and suffering 1 loss. While Sarfaraz Khan, who earned his maiden India call-up for the 2nd Test against England in Vizag, won't be part of the Mumbai squad, the return of Prithvi Shaw enhances the team's batting prowess as they prepare to face Bengal at the Eden Gardens on Friday.
The updated Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy 2024, following Prithvi Shaw's comeback, includes:
Ajinkya Rahane (c), Prithvi Shaw, Jay Bista, Bhupen Lalwani, Shivam Dube, Amogh Bhatkal, Suved Parkar, Prasad Pawar (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Tanush Kotian, Atharva Ankolekar, Aditya Dhumal, Mohit Avasthi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Royston Dias, Sylvester D'Souza.
