Rohit Sharma's spouse, Ritika Sajdeh, openly conveyed her dissatisfaction with Mumbai Indians' head coach, Mark Boucher, and his reasoning behind the decision to replace her husband with Hardik Pandya as the captain for IPL 2024. While Rohit Sharma has chosen not to comment on the decision, causing a division within the cricket community, Ritika Sajdeh utilised social media to criticise the statements made by the former South African wicketkeeper.

In a recent podcast, Mark Boucher justified the selection of Hardik Pandya as the captain, emphasising that it was a strategic cricketing decision and advised against emotional reactions. Boucher clarified that appointing Hardik as the new captain for Mumbai Indians was a strategic move as part of the team's transition phase.

Mark Boucher highlighted that Rohit Sharma's recent batting performances for Mumbai Indians were not at their peak, suggesting that relieving him of captaincy could potentially enhance his contribution as a batter. Boucher implied that this decision aimed to optimise Sharma's performance with the bat.

Ritika Sajdeh, responding to the video of Mark Boucher's interview posted on Smash Sports' official Instagram handle, expressed her discontent by stating, "So many things wrong with this..."

In the recent IPL seasons, Rohit Sharma faced challenges in maintaining consistent performance for Mumbai Indians. In the 2023 season, he accumulated 332 runs in 16 matches, and his performance dipped further in 2022, where he scored just 268 runs in 14 matches with an average of less than 20.

While having a chat earlier on Smash Sports Podcast, Boucher said, "I think it was purely a cricketing decision. We saw the window period to get Hardik back as a player. For me it's a transition phase. A lot of people don't understand in India, people get quite emotional, but you know you take the emotions away from it.

“I think it's just more of a cricketing decision that was made, and I do think it is going to bring the best out of Rohit as a person as a player. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs," Boucher added.

In 2013, Rohit Sharma assumed the captaincy of the Mumbai-based franchise, succeeding Ricky Ponting. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians secured five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit also thrived as a batter, establishing himself as one of the top run-scorers in the history of the IPL.

In contrast, Hardik Pandya initiated his association with MI in 2015 and remained with the team for six consecutive seasons until 2021. In 2022, he made a transition to the Gujarat Titans, guiding them to success in their inaugural season. Furthermore, under Hardik's leadership, the Titans achieved the status of runners-up in the previous season.

Ahead of the 2024 IPL season, MI secured the services of Hardik Pandya through an all-cash deal with the Titans. Boucher expressed confidence in Pandya's leadership abilities, believing that he possesses the potential to guide MI to new heights.

"He is a Mumbai Indians boy. He went to another franchise, won the title in first year and ended up runner-up in his second year. So there's obviously some very good leadership skills as well," Boucher concluded.
