74 Lakh WhatsApp Users In India Face Ban - Find Out Why
WhatsApp , the popular instant messaging application owned by Meta , has taken action against more than 7.4 million 'bad' accounts in India to comply with the new IT Rules of 2021.
In a recent report, it was revealed that WhatsApp banned a total of 7,420,748 accounts in India during the period from August 1 to August 31. Impressively, 3,506,905 of these accounts were proactively banned, even before receiving any reports from users.
The monthly compliance report from the Meta-owned app also highlighted that it received a record-breaking 14,767 complaint reports in August from users in India. Out of these reports, WhatsApp took action on 71 of them.
Regarding the term " Accounts Actioned ," it signifies instances where WhatsApp responded to user reports by taking remedial measures. Such actions could involve either banning an account or reinstating a previously banned account.
WhatsApp emphasised, "This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform."
Furthermore, the company disclosed that it received just one order from the Grievance Appellate Committee ( GAC ) in India during the month of August, and it promptly complied with it. The GAC was recently established by the Indian government to address user concerns regarding content and related issues. The committee aims to strengthen digital regulations and handle user appeals against decisions made by social media platforms.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is introducing a new reply bar feature designed to enhance user experience. This feature will enable users to respond quickly to images, videos, and GIFs within conversations without having to navigate away from the current screen. It allows for smoother and more seamless communication while maintaining context regarding shared media content.
To determine if this feature is available, users can open WhatsApp and access any image, video, or GIF within a conversation. This new feature is expected to become accessible after users install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.20 update from the Google Play Store.
