Paint 3D Discontinuation Announced By Microsoft: What You Need To Know
Microsoft has announced it will phase out the Paint 3D app , marking the end of its era in 3D modeling and editing. The app, which was launched in 2016 as part of the Windows 10 Creators Update , will no longer be available for download from the Microsoft Store after the specified date.
Users of Paint 3D have started seeing a notification within the app about its upcoming removal and the halt of future updates. This development was first uncovered by an X user known for their Windows-related leaks. The notification directs users to a Microsoft page detailing deprecated features, though Paint 3D is currently not listed.
The decision to retire Paint 3D follows a decline in its usage and popularity. Initially designed to replace the traditional Paint application, Paint 3D faced criticism from users who preferred the classic Paint’s straightforward interface.
In 2021, Microsoft had already removed Paint 3D from the default installation options for Windows 10, making it available only through the Microsoft Store.
Despite its unique features, including 3D modeling capabilities, Paint 3D failed to gain widespread traction among Windows users. This decision reflects Microsoft’s shift away from general 3D content creation towards focusing on more universally used tools.
While Paint 3D will remain functional for those who have it installed after November 4, it will no longer receive updates or support. Microsoft suggests users interested in 3D modeling explore other specialized software options.
The move indicates Microsoft’s intention to streamline its creative software offerings, concentrating on tools with broader appeal and leaving specialized 3D modeling to external applications.
